You can just throw some words and images together for a logo, right? Try again. You want people to instantly recognize your brand and your identity, so you’ll need a careful calibration of elements to meet that goal. Naming a company or program also takes careful consideration of the subtle nuances of language—which we can help with, too. Just like we did with Here 4 Youth. We were there from the development of their name and logo, to creating their brand identity.

Helmsley Charitable Trust aspires to improve lives through access to affordable healthcare. To do that, program leaders invite organizations to partner with them. Since organization was fairly new to the upper Midwest, The Trust needed materials they could leave with potential partners that explained the program’s mission.

We worked with the program’s leaders on a four-color folder promotional piece that explains The Trust’s grantmaking strategies. Intermixing images of rural America with images of the latest healthcare technology, the sharp brochure makes it clear how The Trust can help organizations improve access to healthcare in the upper Midwest.

Reaching the thousands of healthcare providers who work for the Avera health system can be a challenge. That’s why Avera created the award-winning All of Us, a newsletter designed to appeal to healthcare providers and to inform them of the latest news at Avera. The marketing team at Avera writes the copy, and HenkinSchultz designs it.

We always thought All of Us was a pretty neat publication, but it was affirmed when All of Us was awarded a Silver Aster Award for Newsletter/Internal – Series in 2010. Thanks to the Marketing Health Today, which hands out the awards as a way to celebrate healthcare marketing professionals who demonstrate excellence in advertising.

Fortunately, SDRE is available to help fund the dreams of small towns across South Dakota. And when coverage of the past year’s grant happenings is needed to report to state governmental agencies, HenkinSchultz was there to design a beautiful annual report.

Capturing the feeling of rural South Dakota in a way that shows both progress and success. Done and done.

Keep it simple. Keep it powerful. Keep it affordable. When you’re asking for money, it’s easy to go overboard. Which is why we kept things scaled back and respectful.

Lavish embossed covers made from unique, intricate paper selections, clever vellum overlays that allude to financial transparency and spot-varnished photographic elements are all standard tricks of the trade that appeal to the vanity of design. And you won’t find any of that here because, when seeking donations, it’s best to not go over the top with production (especially in an economic downturn).

So, we set a budget and selected as natural a tone as possible. But that doesn’t mean it had to be dull, either. We chose to print in two-color, and we got a little excited about trying something different. We combined copper and blue ink for the entire piece in a duotone (10 bonus points if you know what that means), and it turned out awesome.

As one of the first projects for Designer Erik Rodne, he took a gamble during a struggling economy and it paid off by producing a unique, sharp annual report on a limited budget. Since no real gain can come from playing it safe, taking risks is important for our clients to stand out and succeed.

In this case, Achieve asked for a special edition of their newsletter, Finding A Way, to serve as their annual report. And, while we were at it, we made sure it highlighted the upcoming 50th anniversary of Achieve’s creation.

In doing so, we were able to wow donors, families and people served in a way that helped raise the prestige of Achieve’s mission. And, we even snagged a few awards for our work.
