Keep it simple. Keep it powerful. Keep it affordable. When you’re asking for money, it’s easy to go overboard. Which is why we kept things scaled back and respectful.
Lavish embossed covers made from unique, intricate paper selections, clever vellum overlays that allude to financial transparency and spot-varnished photographic elements are all standard tricks of the trade that appeal to the vanity of design. And you won’t find any of that here because, when seeking donations, it’s best to not go over the top with production (especially in an economic downturn).
So, we set a budget and selected as natural a tone as possible. But that doesn’t mean it had to be dull, either. We chose to print in two-color, and we got a little excited about trying something different. We combined copper and blue ink for the entire piece in a duotone (10 bonus points if you know what that means), and it turned out awesome.
As one of the first projects for Designer Erik Rodne, he took a gamble during a struggling economy and it paid off by producing a unique, sharp annual report on a limited budget. Since no real gain can come from playing it safe, taking risks is important for our clients to stand out and succeed.
